1,200 liquor bottles smuggled from Karaikal seized in Sirkazhi

The Sirkazhi police seized 1,200 bottles of liquor smuggled from Karaikal during routine checking of vehicles near Vaitheeswaran Koil railway gate in the early hours of Friday. The liquor was found in a car and one person was arrested in this connection.

The operation was conducted under the orders of Mayiladuthurai District Superintendent of Police Stalin and supervised by Prohibition and Enforcement Deputy Superintendent Rajendran.

During the late night vehicle checking, the police stopped a car near the railway gate. When the driver gave contradictory answers, the officers checked the car and found 1,200 liquor bottles, each containing 180 ml, in the vehicle. The driver, identified as Vicky alias Vignesh from Injikudi near Peralam, was found to have tampered with the car’s registration number plate. The police confiscated the car and arrested the driver.
