The Tea Board seized around 13,600 kg of tea waste that was being transported in a truck on Thursday.
In a press release, it said that officials had received a tip-off that the truck was illegally carrying tea waste. After chasing down the vehicle, officials stopped it near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore. They seized documents confirming where the consignment was headed to and tracked down the business to which it was to be delivered.
The person, who purchased the tea waste, was asked to produce documentation, the purpose it was to be used for and other details to be produced to the Tea Board. Officials said teams had been formed to track down tea waste that was being illegally transported.
