15 Maoists escape after exchange of fire with police twice in Maredumilli forest cover

A group of 15 Maoists had escaped in an exchange of fire between the Maoists belonging to banned CPI (Maoist) party and the Andhra Pradesh State police in the hills of Kakulamamidi area in Y. Ramavaram Mandal in the Maredumilli agency area in Alluri Sitharama Raju district.

In an official release issued on Tuesday, Rampachodavaram ASP (Operations) A. Jagadeesh has claimed: “We have deployed our personnel for combing operation after receiving credible input on the presence of Maoists in Y. Ramavaram Mandal on April 27. Next day, the group of about 15 Maoists, who were sighted near Kakulamamidi village, opened fire on our personnel during the combing operation”.

“During the exchange of fire reported at around 10.30 a.m. on Monday, the Maoists have fled taking advantage of the thick forest cover. Later, the combing operation has been intensified”, said ASP Mr. Jagadeesh.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the same group of Maoists was sighted near Kantavaram village in the Maredumilli forest cover.

“The Maoists resorted to fire again, leading to exchange of fire from both the sides. None of the police personnel were hurt”, claimed ASP Mr. Jagadeesh.

The police have recovered one SLR Magazine and ammunition, communication devices and medicines which were left behind on the spot by the Maoists. An alert has been sounded on the borders of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
