KOTTAYAM: A Kerala court on Saturday convicted 15 people associated with the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) of the murder of Ranjith Sreenivasan, state secretary of BJP‘s OBC Morcha, over two years ago.
According to the prosecution, Sreenivasan’s brutal killing with a sword on Dec 19, 2021, at his Alappuzha home in front of his wife, mother and child was in retaliation to the murder of an SDPI state secretary, KS Shan, the night before. SDPI is PFI’s alleged political wing.
The verdict was delivered by an additional sessions court in Mavelikkara and the punishment is likely to be pronounced on Monday.
Eight of the accused were held guilty of direct involvement in the murder and the others of helping in the crime and trying to destroy evidence.
BJP welcomed the verdict and hoped Sreenivasan’s family would get justice.
