COIMBATORE: As many as 21,06,124 voters are going to exercise their franchise for Coimbatore parliamentary constituency, and 15,97,467 voters are going to cast their votes for Pollachi parliamentary constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha poll.
Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North, Kavundampalayam, Singanallur, Sulur and Palladam assembly constituencies are falling under Coimbatore parliamentary constituency.The constituency has 21,06,124 voters including 10,41,349 male, 10,64,394 female and 381 third gender voters. They are going to elect the member of parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha poll that is to be held on April 19.
The Coimbatore parliamentary constituency has 2,059 polling stations, and these polling stations are located at 584 places.
Thondamuthur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Valparai (reserved), Udumalpet and Madathukulam assembly constituencies are falling under Pollachi parliamentary constituencies. The parliamentary constituency has 15,97,467 voters including 7,73,433 male voters, 8,23,738 female voters and 296 third gender voters.
The Pollachi parliamentary constituency has 1,715 polling stations, and the polling stations are located at 709 locations.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) gave an opportunity to the elderly people aged above 85 years and disabled people to exercise their franchise from home and the elderly people submitted form 12D (application for postal facility) to the election department to avail the facility. Persons with disabilities (PwD) also submitted the forms to the returning officials.
As many as 2,570 voters who were aged above 85 years old, and 424 persons with disabilities (PwD) submitted the forms to the returning officials to exercise their franchise in the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency. As many as 2,085 voters aged above 85 years and 567 PwDs submitted their forms to cast their votes in Pollachi parliamentary constituency.
The election officials visited the residences of above 85-year-old voters and PwDs on Friday and Saturday in Coimbatore parliamentary constituency. As many as 732 people aged above 85 years and 142 PwDs cast their votes in the postal ballots and dropped at the postal ballot drop box on Friday. The process was videographed by the election officials.
In Pollachi parliamentary constituency, as many as 924 voters aged above 85 years old and 260 PwDs exercised their franchise on Friday.
The election officials will visit the residences of senior citizens and PwDs on Tuesday (April 9) to make them exercise their franchise.
Coimbatore district collector Kranthi Kumar Pati said that the district administration has been conducting various events for 100% voting. “Our officials approached the tribal people in the hilly terrains, and we have taken steps to make the tribal people vote. Additional force will be deployed with the help of the forest department to protect the voters in the man-animal conflict areas,” said Kranthi Kumar Pati.
