Alangulam police are on the lookout for the burglars who stole ₹1 lakh in cash and gold jewellery worth ₹16.50 lakh from a farmer’s house near Alangulam on Friday night.
The police said R. Muthukumar, 34, of Uchipothai near Oothumalai and his family were away attending a temple festival on Friday night. When they returned home past midnight, they found that the burglars had taken away 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹1 lakh in cash.
Following a complaint from Mr. Muthukumar with Oothumalai police station, Superintendent of Police S. Aravind and Alangulam Deputy Superintendent of Police Gladson Jones visited the spot. Fingerprint experts lifted samples from the scene of crime.
