BAREILLY: A tragic road accident in UP’s Sambhal district on Monday resulted in the death of four people, while five others are in critical condition.
The victims were sitting on the roadside when a speeding SUV rammed them on Sambhal Bulandshahr state highway in Bhopatpur village under the limits of Rajpura police station.
All the victims were rushed to the hospital where four were declared dead, while five were referred to a higher centre in Aligarh.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the police officials led by Circle Officer (Gunnour) Ganesh Kumar and SHO Rajpura Amarpal Singh arrived at the scene.
All the victims were residents of Bhopatpur village and were sitting on the roadside after a routine morning walk when a speeding Bolero car ran over them, said a local resident. After receiving information about the accident, an ambulance and police from the Rajpura station arrived at the scene.
The injured were initially admitted to the Rajpura Community Health Centre for treatment.
The deceased were identified as Leeladhar (60); Dharamal (40), Om Pal (32), and Pooran Singh (45). The injured are Niranjan Lal (30), his son Avdesh Kumar (4), Jamuna Singh (60), Gangaprasad, and Om Prakash (50).
The SHO said, “The SUV driver fled the spot but we have launched a massive manhunt in search of the driver and the vehicle. All the nearby police stations have been alerted and the driver will be arrested soon. Four people have died so far and the condition of five, including a minor boy, is critical.”
