KOLKATA: Acting on Calcutta high court’s directive, CBI took custody on Wednesday of Sanjoy Roy, the prime accused in the rape-murder of a resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and all related documents and evidence from Kolkata police. Among the evidence the cops handed over were CCTV footage and a Bluetooth headphone found at the scene of the crime.
Police warned people against spreading rumours, clarifying that contrary to claims on social media, they never suggested the victim‘s death was a suicide. A police officer denied that semen from three people was found on the doctor’s body or her collar bone and pelvic guard were broken. Addressing allegations that a police officer offered money to silence the victim’s family, he clarified: “After the Nirbhaya case, the state is obligated to provide financial compensation to families of victims in cases of murder, acid attacks, rape and molestation.”
