NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an orange alert for Kozhikode and Wayanad districts in Kerala, as the state continues to experience heavy rainfall in several regions.
According to the IMD, Kerala is expected to receive heavy rainfall from August 15 to 19 due to a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and South Kerala coast.
IMD has also issued yellow alert for remaining 12 districts and orange alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts for Friday.
Orange alerts indicate very heavy rainfall ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm and a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 to 11 cm.
In addition, the IMD has cautioned against fishing in the Kerala-Lakshadweep-Karnataka coastal region from August 15 to 19, due to the potential for strong winds and adverse weather conditions.
