Two American marines, who had disembarked from U.S. warship USS Wasp in Turkey’s Izmir, were attacked by a mob. A white sack was put on their heads with the crowd yelling, ‘Yankee! Go Back.’ Izmir governor’s office said that security forces “quickly intervened,” detaining 15 suspects. The assailants were members of the Nationalist Youth Union of Türkiye (TGB). The U.S. embassy released a statement, saying that Americans “are now safe” and thanked Turkish authorities for “their rapid response & investigation.”
