NEW DELHI: A thick blanket of fog enveloped the national capital, causing disruptions in traffic movement as the city awoke to an exceptionally cold Sunday.
During the early hours of the day, the RK Puram Area recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.
As many as 22 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country are running late due to dense fog conditions.Several flights have also been delayed, reported news agency ANI.

Thin layer of fog engulfed Delhi, cold wave prevails

The city experienced its first cold wave day on Friday, marked by the India Meteorological Department when the minimum temperature drops below 4 degrees Celsius.

The Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning due to the bone-chilling cold, stating, “A very dense fog layer extends over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Motorists on highways are advised to drive extremely carefully and use fog lights.”

Anticipating dense to very dense fog on Sunday, the Delhi Police cautioned drivers to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.

In an official announcement via its handle, the Delhi Police stated, “The Meteorological Department, Delhi, has predicted dense to very dense fog on January 14, 2024, and dense fog on January 15 & 16, 2024. We urge everyone to drive carefully in the fog.”
As the national capital grappled with thick fog, leading to a significant reduction in visibility, several flights, including Vistara’s Delhi-to-Pune flight, experienced delays of over an hour, as reported by officials.
