MADURAI: The Chennai Central – Bodinayakkanur Superfast Express was delayed for one hour and 26 minutes after one of the wheels of the SLR coach behind the locomotive derailed at Madurai Railway Junction on Thursday.
Train No. 20601, Chennai Central – Bodinayakkanur Superfast Express, operated on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from Chennai Central each week, arrived at Madurai Junction at 7.10 a.m. and was scheduled to depart from Madurai Junction at 7.15am.
When the train moved from Platform No. 5, the first wheel of the SLR coach behind the locomotive derailed, and the loco pilots stopped the train.
The loco pilots alerted the authorities in Madurai Railway Division. The senior officials who rushed to the spot inspected the damages and decided to re-rail the coach using a mechanical jack.
After the coach was re-railed, it was removed from the track, and the train with the rest of the rake departed from the junction at 8.41 a.m. The division has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
