GUWAHATI: Schools and colleges in Manipur’s Imphal valley districts and Jiribam are set to reopen Friday, after a 13-day closure due to violence tied to the ongoing ethnic strife in the state. The decision was taken following appeals from six student organisations, reports Kangkan Kalita.
The shutdown began on Nov 16 after the discovery of six bodies of women and children in Jiribam’s Barak river sparked protests and violence. The closure affected both students and research scholars, with issues compounded by frequent internet suspensions. Curfew has been relaxed to facilitate the reopening. Students expressed hope for uninterrupted classes as pre-board and semester exams approach.
