The Pampa police on Saturday arrested four dolly carriers on charges of attempting to overcharge and misbehaving with pilgrims heading to Sabarimala. The arrested individuals were identified as Selvam (56), Vipin (37), Senthil Kumar (37), and Prasad, all natives of Kumily.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of the day when the accused demanded a fee higher than the rates fixed by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to carry a devotee to the hilltop. When the devotee refused to meet their demands, the carriers declined to provide the service.
The police have booked the accused under Sections 308(3) and 3(5) of the BNS. Steps have been initiated to cancel the identity cards issued to them by the TDB.
