NEW DELHI: Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday condemned the arrest of Allu Arjun and questioned if it was fair to hold the actor directly responsible for the loss of a woman’s life in the stampede during the premier of his latest movie ‘Pushpa 2: The Rise’.
“Allu Arjun has already expressed his sorrow over the incident and has also committed to stand by the family. How far is it fair to hold him directly responsible for the incident? It is not acceptable to frame criminal cases against Arjun and arrest him,” the former Andhra chief minister said in a post on X.
Actor Allu Arjun was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court in Telangana in connection with the stampede incident on December 4 night when a large number of fans had thronged the Sandhya theatre here to have a glimpse of the actor during the premiere. A 35-year-old woman died and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised in the incident.
Allu Arjun was arrested early morning in connection with the incident. The actor was taken from his residence and taken to Chikkadpally police station in a police vehicle.
The police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint lodged by the deceased woman’s family.
