India’s double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is set to marry her fiance Venkata Datta at Raffles, an upscale resort in Udaipur today (Sunday), with the reception scheduled in Sindhu’s native city, Hyderabad, on December 24.
The pre-wedding festivities commenced with Sangeet on December 20, followed by Haldi, Pellikuthuru and Mehendi ceremonies the subsequent day.
Sindhu’s exceptional accomplishments have established her as a leading figure in badminton, serving as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes across India and globally.
In her remarkable sporting journey, Sindhu has earned five prestigious medals at the BWF World Championships, including the 2019 gold. It’s an accomplishment shared only with China’s Zhang Ning amongs female players.
Her groundbreaking performance at the Rio Olympics in 2016 saw her become India’s first badminton finalist at the Games, securing a silver medal following an intense contest with Spain’s Carolina Marin.
She further enhanced her legacy at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, claiming bronze and establishing herself as India’s first female athlete to secure two Olympic medals, a feat that was matched by shooter Manu Bhaker with her twin medals in Paris.
Manu, however, is the only Indian athlete to win two medals in the same edition of the Olympics.
Sindhu recently broke her Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour title drought by defeating China’s Wu Luo Yu at the Syed Modi India International tournament in Lucknow.
