Pourakarmikas who are on an indefinite day-and-night agitation seeking the fulfilment of their various demands organised a mock third day funeral ritual of the municipal commissioner in Hubballi on Saturday to register their protest against the failure of the municipal commissioner in implementing the resolutions passed by the municipal council.
Meanwhile, the indefinite agitation of the pourakarmikas to press for their demands, including regularisation of service, entered the 18th day here on Saturday.
The protestors conducted the mock third day funeral ritual saying that Municipal Commissioner Eshwar Ullagaddi has failed to implement the orders of the State government, the State Safai Karmachari Commission, the direction of the Deputy Commissioner and also the resolutions passed by the Hubballi Dharwad Municipal Council.
They said that by not implementing the directions and orders, the municipal commissioner has disgraced the elected body.
Addressing the protestors, district president of the pourakarmika association Vijay Guntral urged the Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor to take legal action against the municipal commissioner for his failure to implement the resolutions of the municipal council.
He said that the pourakarmikas are being denied their rights and facilities which denial is liable for punishment under the provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.
He urged the Joint Director of Social Welfare Department to register a case against the municipal commissioner under the Act. Labour Minister Santosh Lad too has failed to protect the exploitation of workers in his home district, he said.
