NEW DELHI: Developers in Oklahoma City are planning to construct the tallest skyscraper in the United States, according to a report by the New York Post.
The real estate company, Matteson Capital, is adjusting their plans for the Boardwalk at Bricktown Tower to reach a height of 1,907 feet, surpassing the current tallest building in the country. The height is symbolic, honoring the year Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States.
“The symbolic height honors the year that Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States,” Matteson Capital said in a statement.
Initially, the company had proposed a height of 1,750 feet for the tallest tower, which would have made it the second-tallest building in the country, behind Manhattan’s Freedom Tower. However, Matteson Capital now plans to request a variance from the city’s zoning board to proceed with the ambitious project.
If approved, the Boardwalk at Bricktown Tower would become the fifth-tallest building in the world.
The structure will consist of three towers, each approximately 345 feet tall, and a fourth tower soaring to 1,907 feet, dominating Oklahoma City’s skyline. The project will span 5 million square feet and include 1,776 residential units, two Hyatt hotels, condos, and 110,000 square feet of commercial and community use space.
Visitors to the tower will be able to enjoy amenities such as a restaurant, a bar, and an observation deck on the top floors. However, city officials have indicated that rezoning the property will be necessary for the project to proceed, rather than simply requesting a variance.
The plans for this ambitious skyscraper are shaping up to transform Oklahoma City’s skyline and put it on the map as a major architectural destination in the United States.
