NEW DELHI: Former Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar has rejoined the BJP in a big Lingayat boost to the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He reached the BJP headquarters in Delhi along with BS Yediyurappa on Thursday where he formally joined the party.
“I’m rejoining the BJP, which has given several key responsibilities to me in the past. Although, I had quit the party and joined the Congress, there was a request from my supporters that I should return to BJP. I have belief in PM Modi under whose leadership India has earned respect globally,” Shettar said while joining the party.
Shettar left the saffron party in April 2023 after being denied a ticket for the assembly elections. Subsequently, he joined Congress and contested the assembly polls but lost.
He is currently a member of the legislative council in Karnataka.
He along with former deputy CM Laxman Savadi was among the high-profile departures from BJP after being denied tickets.
Earlier this month, Shetter had denied speculations of him rejoining the BJP.
