NEW DELHI: Counting of votes have begun for Narela, Vidhan Sabha general category seat within North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. After first round of counting, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Raj Karan Khatri, with 4602 votes, is leading Aam Aadmi Party’s Sharad Kumar by 1428 votes.
The constituency sees fight between AAP’s Sharad Kumar, BJP’s Raj Karan Khatri, and Congress’s Aruna Kumari as key contenders in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections, with the current term ending February 15, 2025.
Other candidates for Narela are Vikas Bhardwaj (Independent), Anil Kumar Singh (CPI(ML)(L)), Budiya (Independent), Md Khalid (Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram).
In the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, AAP candidate Sharad Kumar emerged victorious with 86,070 votes, defeating BJP’s Neel Daman Khatri who received 68,833 votes.
Narela’s electoral history spans several decades of administrative changes. From 1966 to 1993, it was a segment of the Delhi Metropolitan Council. Between 1993 and 2008, Narela belonged to the Delhi legislative assembly segment under East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.
Following the 2008 delimitation, Narela was reassigned as an assembly segment of the North West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. It is now one of the ten assembly segments within the North West Delhi (SC) parliamentary constituency.
