NEW DELHI: The BJP has regained power in Delhi after 27 long years securing a decisive victory over Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP. With AAP and Congress contesting as rivals in Delhi, there was possibility of BJP making gains in several seats due to division of votes. While the divide did help the BJP in several constituencies, it had little impact on seats with a significant Muslim population.
Delhi Election Results 2025
The AAP remained a dominant force on most of these seats.
Despite failing to secure a majority, AAP’s performance in Muslim-dominated seats remained strong. The party secured victories in constituencies such as Seelampur, Matia Mahal, and Ballimaran, while the key Okhla seat still counting votes, with AAP’s Amanatullah Khan maintaining a commanding lead of over 30,000 against AIMIM’s Shifa ur Rehman Khan and BJP’s Manish Chaudhary, who trailed in third.
AIMIM, led by Asaduddin Owaisi, contested two seats in Delhi—Okhla and Mustafabad. Mustafabad saw the highest voter turnout at 69%, with AIMIM securing 33,474 votes and Congress bagging 11,763. Despite a combined tally exceeding 45,000 votes, BJP’s Mohan Singh Bisht clinched victory, defeating AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan by a margin of 17,000 votes. A pre-poll alliance between AAP, Congress, and AIMIM could have altered the outcome in favor of AAP.
A similar scenario unfolded in Badli, where AAP and Congress together secured over 65,000 votes. However, BJP’s candidate won the seat with 46,129 votes, highlighting the potential impact of a strategic alliance.
