ULHASNAGAR: Upset over the ‘slow’ pace at which work on his bank account had been going on, a 24-year-old man from Ulhasnagar called up the bank, warning that a bomb had been placed at the branch of the nationalised bank. He was tracked down by the police who claimed that he has confessed to having made the call to “teach the bank employees a lesson”.
The man, a resident of Waldhuni locality, had visited the bank’s Nehru chowk branch Thursday afternoon for some work about his ‘KYC’ (Know Your Customer) procedures.”He said he was upset that the bank staff had delayed him for that little task,” said a police officer.
No sooner had the young man got home than he called up the police control room and warned of a bomb being placed on the bank’s premises, said the officer. The security machinery was activated. The bomb disposal squad was rushed in. The bank premises were scanned but no trace of any explosive was found, said the police.
Next, a police a team swung into action to track down the hoax caller and the man was nabbed.
Senior inspector Dilip Fulpagare of Ulhasnagar police station said the man, who hails from a “well-to-do family” was grilled and he confessed to his crime. “He said he wanted to teach the bank staff a lesson for wasting his time,” said the inspector.
The man was allowed to go after being served a notice as it is a bailable offence.
