The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has uncovered a case of medical fraud involving a man allegedly posing as a doctor at Ankura Hospital for Women and Children in Hyderabad’s Madinaguda. Acting on credible intelligence, the council conducted a surprise inspection at the hospital on March 19.
“The inspection team, led by Kadali Vishnu, a member of the TGMC, and accompanied by vigilance officers M.Ramu and M.Rakesh, found that a person identified as Kalapala Bharat Kumar was working as a Duty Medical Officer using forged documents. The individual had fabricated his medical registration certificate and was practising medicine without a valid licence,” informed a note released by TGMC on Monday.
Following the inspection, TGMC lodged a complaint at the Miyapur Police Station. The council confirmed that the suspect had indeed used a fake registration certificate and noted that further investigation is under way, with information awaited from the Station House Officer of Miyapur.
“Following the complaint by the TGMC and our internal inquiry by the HR Department, Kalapala Bharat Kumar has been immediately terminated from service for submitting forged certificates. We are extending full cooperation to the authorities and will continue to take all necessary steps to support the TGMC and the police in their investigation,” the hospital said in a statement.
In the wake of this incident, the Telangana Medical Council has issued a directive to all hospitals, nursing homes, and super-specialty hospitals across the State to verify the credentials of medical professionals before hiring them. The council highlighted that hospitals can confirm the authenticity of a doctor’s registration on its official website.
