VISAKHAPATNAM: Defence minister Rajnath Singh commissioned survey vessel INS Sandhayak into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard here on Saturday. The event marked the formal induction into the Navy of the first of four survey vessel (large) ships, being constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata.
Sandhayak was delivered to the Navy on Dec 4, 2023. Singh said those involved in maritime piracy and smuggling will not be tolerated under any circumstances, calling it the “pledge of New India”. Praising the Navy for averting five piracy attempts and assisting ships attacked by drones and missiles in the last few days, he said Navy is facilitating safe trade in the Indian Ocean region, while ensuring peace and prosperity.
