Reiterating that the people’s government in Telangana is firmly committed to the welfare of government employees, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has said a committee of senior officials has been constituted to examine their demands.

“Our government is at the forefront in addressing employees’ needs,” he said, while speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Government Medical College building at Raghunadhapalem on the outskirts of Khammam town on Thursday. The foundation stone has been laid for the construction of the medical college building at an estimated cost of ₹130 crore. Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy among others were present. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister hit out at the BRS and the BJP, accusing them of spreading false propaganda against the Congress government by making misleading statements.

He said, “The persons at the helm in the previous BRS government imposed a whopping debt burden of ₹ 7 lakh crore on the State. They never paid employees’ salaries on the first of the month. Those residing in luxury farm houses are making baseless statements after leaving the governance to the wind for ten years.”

Despite the State’s present revenue position, welfare schemes worth ₹60,000 crore to ₹70,000 crore are being implemented without putting an additional financial burden on the public, he said, adding salaries are being paid to the State government employees on the first of every month.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has assured that the State government is committed to address employees’ grievances, he noted.

Approval for eight new government medical colleges were secured after Mr. Damodar Raja Narasimha became the Health Minister, taking the total number of government medical colleges in the State to 34, he said, noting that efforts were on to construct permanent buildings for these medical colleges.

Mr. Vikramarka said the previous BRS government had spent only ₹5,959 crore on the Medical and Health Department from 2014 to 2023. Our Indiramma government spent ₹11,482 crore in just one year, he added. He accused the BRS regime of neglecting the Rajiv Arogyasri Scheme and leaving medical bills pending. “We cleared the pending bills and increased the medical coverage limit from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, benefitting 90 lakh families in the State with free healthcare,” he asserted.
