TPCC working president T. Jagga Reddy invoked the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, praising her decisive role during the 1971 India-Pakistan war and said the BJP is still trying to undermine her contribution in winning wars.

Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Mr. Reddy said that even during the present Indo-Pak conflict Indira Gandhi’s courage was being discussed to teach Pakistan a lesson. He said ‘India meant Indira’, those days and even BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee had praised her courage beyond party lines and urged the BJP government to set aside political differences in moments of national crisis.

Mr. Reddy recalled Indira Gandhi’s firm stance during the 1971 war, especially her refusal to bow to American pressure and the world respected her for standing by the will of the Indian people. “Pakistan had to bow its head before India then. That courage is missing today,” he argued.

Taking a dig at BJP leaders, he said the BJP cries more about the Gandhi family than taking any real action. “BJP’s politics is hybrid and Congress’s politics is national,” he said.

“Congress, grounded in national values and history, stands ready to answer any provocation, including insults or misrepresentations from the BJP,” he added.
