TIRUPATI: Former Telugu Desam minister Ponguru Narayana warned officials that he would proceed legally if they fail to rectify the duplication of votes in the Nellore city assembly constituency immediately.
Accompanied by Kotamreddy Sreenivasulu Reddy, former Nellore mayor Shaik Abdul Azeez and other leaders, Narayana met Nellore municipal commissioner Vikas Marmat at the corporation office at Nellore on Tuesday and complained about the inaction on the officials part in rectification of duplicate votes in the final voters list.
Speaking to reporters later, the ex TDP minister observed that there were about 2263 duplicate/doubling votes found in the voters list. “About three weeks ago, we brought similar abnormalities in the voters list found in the 16th division of the corporation to the notice of the officials. But no action has been taken to rectify that too”, Narayana lamented and warned that he will wait for another 15 days and if officials fail to rectify the erroneous entries in the final voters list, he will be constrained to move the courts for justice.
Meanwhile, Kotamreddy Sreenivasulu Reddy too found fault in the laxity of the officials in rectifying the mistakes in the voters list despite several representations given by the opposition parties.
“The commissioner himself has said that there are approximately 30000 bogus votes registered in Nellore district. Though the commissioner is sincerely putting in efforts to delete the erroneous entries, some officials who have connived with the ruling party leaders are trying to create hurdles”, Kotamreddy lamented and warned that the TDP will put up a relentless fight until a fair and final voters list free from erroneous entries is released.
