With accidents occurring at some places repeatedly, Kurnool district officials have focussed on rectifying the loopholes at such spots to bring down fatalities and accidents.
District Collector P. Ranjith Basha, at the recently convened District Road Safety Committee meeting, asked the roads and building officials to visit the accident spot to ascertain the cause of the mishap. He asked the officials to undertake necessary repairs at the spot and ensure that accidents do not happen again at the place.
Mr. Ranjith Basha appreciated the national highways department for responding promptly and undertaking ₹2 crore worth works at the identified black spots to prevent accidents. He wanted the officials to document the repair works taken at the identified spots and release a booklet of the same. He wanted officials to ensure that the suggestions made by the Road Safety Committee and other concerned officials to rectify the problems on the roads where accidents took place during March and April months be implemented without fail.
On the enforcement side, the Collector wanted the transport department officials to intensify checks against violations like overloading of autos, triple riding and others.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil asked the transport department officials to conduct fitness tests for the educational institution vehicles as schools would be re-opened in the coming days. He asked officials to identify the places where speed-breakers should be installed on national and state highways and complete the works at the earliest. Mr Vikrant Patil said they have made videos on preventing accidents and asked the district collector to provide a mobile van to display the videos at important junctions to educate the public.
Mr.Ranjith Basha said the cases related to compensation to the victims of hit and run cases are pending in good numbers with the Kurnool Revenue Divisional Office and asked officials to clear them.
