A double save from P. Sreejesh in the penalty shootout allowed India to edge past the Netherlands 4-2 in the FIH Pro League at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
The Indian keeper saved attempts from Croon Jorrit and De Geus Jonas. For India, Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Shamsher Singh converted.
In the regular time, the two teams were locked 2-2. Hardik Singh put India ahead in the opening quarter but short corner strikes from Janssen Jipp and Bijen Koen in the 30th and 39th minutes, respectively, allowed the visitor to pull ahead.
Harmanpreet Singh, however, sounded the board from a penalty corner two minutes from the full-time hooter to force a draw. This was the Indian captain’s third goal in the Pro League.
India had won its first match of the tournament on Saturday, beating Spain 4-1. Criag Fulton’s side faces Australia next, on February 15.
