JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Congress on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC) demanding disqualification of BJP candidate Surendra Pal Singh TT for the assembly election to Karanpur seat scheduled on January 5.
According to the party, TT’s induction as a cabinet minister on Saturday was a violation of election laws and the model code of conduct as “it shall have the effect of influencing the voters” and “is an act of serious impropriety as his position would badly affect free and fair elections”.
The Congress delegation that handed over the memorandum to the EC was led by senior party functionary Raghu Sharma.
“Surprisingly, on December 30, Surendra Pal Singh TT was inducted as a cabinet minister in the government. When the election process has already started and TT is one of the candidates in such election, his appointment as a cabinet minister is clearly in violation of election laws and in violation of model code of conduct, especially clause 32,” the memorandum said.
Election to the Karanpur seat was deferred during the recently held Rajasthan assembly elections, due to the demise of the Congress candidate.
