CHENNAI: Aiming to breach the southern bastion of Tamil Nadu, which has remained an impregnable fortress for the BJP, barring the sole exception of Kanyakumari in 2014, the party unleashed its heavy artillery in Lok Sabha battle this time.
Among heavyweights who have been fielded are BJP state chief K Annamalai, former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union minister L Murugan, BJP legislative party leader Nainar Nagendran and former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan. BJP is contesting 19 seats in the state and released a list of seven candidates Thursday. Later, the BJP named the remaining 12 seats where it would be contesting but didn’t announce the nominees.
