CHANDIGARH: The crime branch of Chandigarh police arrested a man with a country-made pistol and live cartridges on Saturday night. Cops said the accused has been identified as Deepak (26), a resident of Sector 25.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team raided Sector 25 and nabbed Deepak in front of his house.
The accused failed to produce a licence of the pistol, police officials said.He was booked relevant sections of the Arms Act.
During further interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had bought the pistol from a resident of Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. The accused said he had enmity with several persons in the area and was carrying a pistol in his self-defence.
Police said the accused had a tainted past. He had been booked in two cases of Arms Act and assault by Sector 11 police and Sarangpur police in 2017 and 2021, respectively.
