RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Congress will stage widespread protests across districts on Saturday, condemning what they call the Central Government’s undemocratic actions. The decision comes in response to the Income Tax Department’s issuance of a notice demanding Rs 1823.08 crore from the Congress party. This move has been met with strong opposition from Congress leaders, who see it as an attempt to financially weaken the party.
In a show of dissent, Congress will organise torchlight processions to express their disapproval of these actions. The protests aim to highlight what opposition parties perceive as a systematic attempt by the ruling BJP to suppress dissenting voices and undermine democracy.
Last month, during the lead-up to the Lok Sabha in February, the Congress party faced an illicit attempt to freeze its bank accounts, said Congress communication department head Sushil Anand Shukla in a press statement on Friday.
Further, the Congress alleges that such actions are part of a larger strategy by the BJP to suppress opposition parties. “We view these measures as a threat to the democratic fabric of the nation,” he said.
The protests will not be limited to state capital Raipur alone. Demonstrations will be held in all district headquarters across the state, with large-scale gatherings planned for Saturday. Moreover, on the subsequent day, protests led by local leaders and party officials will take place in all constituencies, emphasizing the party’s determination to stand against what they perceive as unjust treatment by the Central Govt.
