INDORE: A woman and her 17-year-old daughter were killed and her husband seriously injured when a speeding truck hit their motorcycle while trying to overtake another vehicle on the accident-prone Bypass on Wednesday.
The family – Karan Singh Chouhan, 50, wife Chhaya, 45, and daughter Divyanshi – was headed for Omkareshwar when the accident happened around 9am, ACP Rubina Mizwani said.
They were headed for Khandwa Road from Rau Circle via Tejaji Nagar when the truck hit them from behind, hurling all three on the road. Its rear wheels crushed mother and daughter, killing them instantly. The truck sped off.
Passersby rushed to their aid, covered the mangled bodies with sheets and took Karan to hospital. He is fighting for life in ICU.
Karan works at a bakery and his daughter was in class 12 in a private school. Police handed over their bodies to their kin for last rites. Their Navda Panth neighbourhood was shrouded in grief.
Mizwani said they were checking CCTV footage to identify the truck and its driver.
“Most cameras of restaurants and kiosks we found cover only the service lane. We are checking toll plaza cameras as well. A case of culpable homicide has been registered,” said Mizwani.
