Ford Motor Co has announced a delay in the launch of its new three-row electric vehicles to 2027 from the previously planned 2025 date. The No. 2 U.S. automaker attributed this delay to the need for further development in the consumer market for three-row EVs and the opportunity to leverage emerging battery technology.
Additionally, Ford disclosed a postponement in the delivery of its all-new EV truck, originally slated for late 2025, now pushed to 2026.Last year, Ford had outlined intentions to produce up to 500,000 electric trucks annually. Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler had indicated a delay in some of the company’s planned multibillion-dollar investments in new EV and battery production capacity due to significant downward pressure on prices.
The retooling of the Oakville assembly plant in Ontario, as promised during contract negotiations with Canada’s Unifor union in 2020, is set to commence in the second quarter of this year as scheduled. General Motors had previously announced a one-year delay in the production of electric pickup trucks at its Orion Township plant in Michigan.
