The first day of the New Year had started with over Rs. 15 crores coming in at the box office. Of course, it was a holiday for most of the patrons and hence the numbers are higher than expected. That said, both Dunki and Salaar (Hindi) have seen mixed response coming their way so that somehow evens up the whole thing.
It would be these two films that will stay in circulation for long though since the exhibitors need minimum count of screens for Merry Christmas, Hanuman and Main Atal Hoon, the next three releases till Fighter arrives on January 25. Yes, the shows of Animal have increased and so has been the case with Sam Bahadur as well. Still, it’s Dunki and Salaar (Hindi) with the largest share and hence they would manage to add a few more crores to their tally.
Dunki needs that to come as close to Rs. 250 crores as possible. It currently stands at Rs. 183.77 crores after bringing in Rs. 8.20 crores more on Monday. It has missed out on entering the Rs. 200 Crores Club during the holiday season itself but it should manage to do so soon. On the other hand, Salaar (Hindi) has its eyes on the Rs. 125 crores mark. It too managed to bring in Rs. 8 crores* more on Monday and that has pushed its total to Rs. 125 crores*. It’s a decent enough total, especially considering its clash with Dunki, and now it would be interesting to see if Rs. 25 crores more get added to its total in next 24 days before Fighter hits the screens on January 25.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
