NEW DELHI: Trolled for her remarks in a TV interview that Subhas Chandra Bose was the first PM of India, BJP’s Mandi LS candidate and actor Kangana Ranaut on Friday got support from various quarters, including Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who recalled that Netaji had established the Azad Hind govt, which was recognised by several countries, almost four years before India attained independence and Jawaharlal Nehru became PM.
“To those mocking Kangana Ranaut… on Oct 21, 1943, Netaji established Azad Hind govt, of which he was the head, nearly four years before Nehru took oath as PM following transfer of power,” Sarma said on X, adding, “Nine countries recognised Azad Hind govt as the legitimate govt of India. This subconscious urge to interpret history on the lines of colonialists is called ‘ghulami ki mansikta’.”
During a media conclave, Ranaut called Bose independent India’s first Prime Minister, sparking a furore. The video of her statement made rounds on social media. and was shared by prominent political figures.
Her comment on Bose’s role in India’s political history drew mixed reactions and raised eyebrows due to its historical inaccuracy.
Ranaut responded saying, “All those who are giving me gyan on first PM of Bharat do read this screenshot, here’s some general knowledge for beginners… , all those geniuses who are asking me to get some education must know that I have written, acted, directed a film called Emergency which primarily revolves around Nehru family so no mansplaining please. If I speak way ahead of your IQ you assume I must be uninformed, well the joke is on you…” She also shared a screenshot of a report stating that Netaji formed govt of Azad Hind Fauj in Singapore on Oct 21, 1943, and declared himself PM.
