PUNE: The city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies from Tuesday, leading to a drop in maximum temperature, the Met department said on Monday, while revising its rain forecast for Pune, predicting light showers on Thursday and Friday as against the earlier projected dates of April 7-8.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the current day temperature in parts of Pune ranged from 38.5°C to over 40°C, a marginal drop from the earlier scorching conditions.
“Partly cloudy sky conditions will persist in Pune from Tuesday with light rainfall expected on April 11-12 [Thursday and Friday]. Though it was earlier predicted that light rainfall may occur in Pune on April 7-8 [Sunday and Monday], there’s been a drop in relative humidity and the amount of moisture incursion. This is because the trough/wind discontinuity shifted to north coastal Andhra Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema,” an IMD official said.
“Rain activity has shifted to east and central India, to parts like Vidarbha, east Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand. From April 11, however, another spell could occur, which is likely to cover other parts of central India, including Madhya Maharashtra and possibly Pune. Marathwada may see some rainfall activity starting Tuesday,” the official said.
A Skymet Weather Services update recently said while isolated spells were expected on April 6 in parts of the state, significant relief from scorching heat would arrive with a gradual surge in rain intensity after that date.
“The initial beneficiaries are likely to be Vidarbha, Marathwada and southeast MP regions. By April 9, rain and thundershowers will spread across a wider area, reaching Madhya Maharashtra and western parts of MP. The possibility of hailstorms accompanying these showers cannot be ruled out during this period. While these showers will bring respite from heat, the agricultural community needs to remain cautious,” Skymet said.
