VISHAKHAPATNAM: The train services on platforms No. 3 and 4 at Visakhapatnam Railway Station have resumed following a thorough inspection and necessary precautions.
It is recalled that a Foot Over Brider (FOB) in the south end was damaged and the railway authorities closed the bridge for repairs. Chief Bridge Engineer Rajkumar, Chief Planning and Design Engineer B.Srinivasa Rao, along with Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Saurabh Prasad, ADRM, and Civil Engineering Officials, conducted a detailed inspection of the South End FOB near gate no.3 Vizag Railway Station from Tuesday late night.
As a precautionary measure, it was decided to replace the girder span between Platform No. 3 and 4. The dismantling of the steel truss of the FOB between 3 and 4 platforms was meticulously organized, with expert technicians and specialized equipment deployed for the task. The train services on Platforms No. 3 and 4 have resumed. However, the usage of the South End Foot Over Bridge has been temporarily restricted as an added safety measure.
Further, a high-level meeting of officials with the East Coast Railway Headquarters was held, wherein it was decided that all 84 Foot over Bridges in the Waltair Division would undergo a thorough inspection as part of a 10-day special drive, with a special emphasis on safety.
