NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in the national capital on Sunday to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting started at 11am with key officials in attendance, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, home secretary Ajay Bhalla, and Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Tapan Deka.
Senior Army officers, such as Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff (designate) Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, Director General of the Central Armed Police Forces, Chief Secretary, and DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, also participated in the discussion.
Shah reviewed the recent surge in terrorist attacks in the region, which have raised significant concerns about security measures.
The meeting also touched upon the preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, ensuring the safety of pilgrims during this significant event.
This meeting followed a prior discussion held two days earlier between the home minister and home ministry officials, who briefed Shah on the current security situations and the measures in place to manage and mitigate such terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir.
Heightened security vigilance aims to protect residents of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, and to maintain law and order in the state.
Since June 9, multiple terror attacks have occurred in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda. These incidents resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and one Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan. Additionally, a civilian was injured, and at least seven security personnel sustained injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir following recent terror-related incidents. The meeting included NSA Ajit Doval and other senior officials and focused on assessing the current security landscape in the region.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister received a comprehensive update on ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. He was informed about the strategies and operations being executed to address terrorist activities and to ensure the safety of the region.
PM Modi also engaged in discussions with home minister Amit Shah regarding the deployment of security forces and ongoing counter-terror operations. Additionally, he communicated with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the situation and was briefed on the local administration’s efforts.
The primary focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of both locals and pilgrimage participants in Jammu and Kashmir, amidst the recent escalation in terrorist activities.
