TIRUPATI: A 16-year-old polytechnic diploma student allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her hostel room at Palamaner in Chittoor district on Thursday. The girl was identified as V Rasagna, a native of R Jayarajapuram village in Chittoor .
Police said Rasagna was a first year (EEE branch) student of the government polytechnic college for women at Palamaner. She seemed to be under depression which may have led her to take the extreme step. Palamaner police station inspector Chandrasekhar said Rasagna along with her mother went to her home town on December 30 to celebrate her birthday with family members.
“She returned to the college on January 2 and told her hostel roommates that she was not feeling well and suffering from body pains. The girl stayed in the hostel room on Wednesday and did not attend classes on Thursday stating she was still unwell. Her roommates said Rasagna took a paracetamol tablet on Thursday morning and confined herself to her hostel room,” he said. Around noon, the hostel staff came to check the condition of the girl. They knocked on the door several times but received no answer. When they looked inside the room through the window they found her was hanging from the ceiling fan. They broke open the door, brought her down and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
“Our investigation has revealed that the girl was not facing any academic stress as she was good at studies. Though there was no suicide note, we suspect she took the extreme step due to personal reasons. Investigation is underway to ascertain the exact reason for the suicide,” Chandrasekhar added.
