Jibraan Khan, forever etched in the collective memory as the adorable Krish Raichand from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham made his debut in Ishq Vishk Rebound in June 2024. The son of veteran actor Firoz Khan, Jibraan was quick to dispel the notion of an easy entry into Bollywood. Contrary to the popular perception of nepotism, he insists that his journey has been a relentless pursuit of opportunities.

Jibraan Khan on facing struggles despite being Feroz Khan’s son: “I don’t have that kind of connection”

“If it was easy, I would have been launched years ago,” he said in an interview with Hindustan Times. The passage of nearly a quarter century since Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is a stark reminder of the long haul he has endured. Jibraan’s determination to carve his niche is evident.

He has rigorously honed his craft, immersing himself in theatre, Kathak, and intense physical training. Offers did trickle in over the years, but none resonated with his aspirations. However, being a star kid has not helped him much. He continued, “If that would be the case then I would have been launched a couple of years ago. K3G is going to finish 25 years in the next two years, it’s been a really long time. I just feel that there are a lot of parts of the industry. I belong to a part where I don’t have that kind of connection.”

He added, “My father has been an actor in the 1980s and 1990s. The relevancy also matters. I am not saying that he cannot take me to the biggest parties and stars of our country and say that ‘please do something for my son’, but he also needed to feel that back in the day, I needed to be that prepared. I could not be that please take me to Shah Rukh Khan and tell them that my son wants to be launched.”

While acknowledging his father’s influence in the late 80s and 90s, Jibraan added, “I remember that this incident had happened once where I was a frustrated 20-year-old and then I told him, ‘Take me somewhere, you have worked with all the big names, people know you, you are respected and relevant, so what’s the matter’. He said, ‘Jibraan you tell me, I will take you and they turned around and say ‘Firoz Bhai he doesn’t look like an actor. How would that feel?’ and I think that was a very big turning point in my life.”

While on a new path for work, Jibraan is equally adamant about preserving his Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham identity. The character of Krish Raichand remains an integral part of him. “There was a time when I wanted to distance myself from it, but I’ve come to embrace it as a blessing,” he said.

While Jibraan Khan has finally made his official debut, he has yet to announce his next project.
