Adrian Newey has commenced his new position at Aston Martin in an official capacity, capping a massive transition in the renowned career. The British engineer embarked on his first day as Managing Technical Partner of the Silverstone-based team after he left Red Bull Racing. He is one of the most highly regarded Formula One engineers ever, with 12 World Constructors’ Championships and 223 Gr Prix from 1991 to 2024.

With March 1, 2025, as his official date of joining, Aston Martin created suspense for Newey’s arrival. On the night before his first working day, the team posted a glimpse of his office on social media, captioning it with an eager note: ‘See you tomorrow, Adrian.’
The new recruit, Newey, joins the team at a good time when Aston Martin is struggling with their mixed runs in pre-season testing in Bahrain. Throughout the three-day test, the team posted the lowest mileage among its competitors, a sign that improving reliability and performance before the opening of the season is a requirement.

Pre-season setbacks and expectations for 2025

Aston Martin’s pre-season preparations were hit further when Lance Stroll had to miss most of Friday’s running-through illness. In reaction, Fernando Alonso became the de facto driver, pushing to make up for lost time on track. Undeterred by the setback, Alonso was positive, saying that the AMR25 is an improvement over its 2024 predecessor.
