Abhijeet Reflects on Their Association

“I sang for him when he was very young. My voice is still very young,” Abhijeet reminisced. Despite their professional chemistry, the singer admitted that their personal relationship was distant, limited to work-related interactions. “We never met too often. We were never friends. I go to the studio and return home. I don’t meet people and party like filmy log,” he said.

Fallout and Lingering Hurt

The fallout between Abhijeet and Shah Rukh Khan left the singer feeling ignored. He shared that while others who insulted Shah Rukh reconciled with him, no such effort was made in their case. “Being a senior, age-wise, he could come and hug me. I wasn’t expecting an apology, but he could say, ‘chal yaar…we’ll play together again.’ But people chose to ignore me,” Abhijeet said, his voice tinged with regret.

Claims About Shah Rukh’s Contemporaries

Abhijeet also revealed how Shah Rukh Khan’s contemporaries underestimated him in his early days. “There were a few stars who told me, ‘hakle ke liye gaa raha hai na tu (You are singing for the stammerer)?’” he claimed, explaining how jealousy among peers impacted their perception of the actor.

Musical Chemistry and Hope for Reconciliation

Abhijeet expressed a willingness to rekindle their professional collaboration, describing their musical synergy as akin to a marriage. “Why wouldn’t I want to patch up? We are made for each other, our voice… Husband and wife fight, and they’ll have to patch up, won’t it? It is not out of obligation but for the good. We will create something good,” he said.

When questioned about his earlier claim that Shah Rukh’s stardom diminished after their split, Abhijeet clarified, “No… But you remind me of any song of his from recent times which you remember. The new songs are not at par with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Darr…” he said, suggesting the enduring impact of their work together.

For the unversed, Abhijeet’s collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan created memorable musical moments in films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Yes Boss, Main Hoon Na, and Chalte Chalte. Songs such as ‘Tumne Jo Maine Dekha,’ ‘Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Mein,’ and ‘I Am the Best’ remain timeless classics in Bollywood’s rich musical history.
