NEW DELHI: Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party MLC C T Ravi, who was arrested for allegedly using a derogatory word against state minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, has called the action of Congress-led government “acted like dictators” and said that this dictatorship will not last long.
Ahead of being presented before the Special Court for Elected Representatives in Bengaluru, Ravi on Friday said, “They (the government) have acted like dictators, there is a full stop to everything, dictatorship will not last long.”
CT Ravi was detained on Thursday evening on charges of making derogatory remarks against women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.
Earlier in the day, he was presented before the City Fifth Additional Magistrate’ Court in Belagavi.
‘Is democracy taking its last breath in Karnataka?’
BJP leader HD Kumaraswamy raised concerns about the safety of CT Ravi and asked that whether the democracy is taking its last breath in Karnataka. He also posted a photo of Ravi got injured on his head and a video of Hebbalkar’s supporters attacking him.
“Is democracy taking its last breath in Karnataka? This is my concern. When even opposition leaders have no safety, what is the point of holding anyone’s portrait in the legislature? The alleged attack on MLC Shri @CTRavi_BJP
avaru in corridors of Suvarna Soudha is highly condemnable. If CT Ravi avaru used inappropriate or obscene words against the Honorable Minister, I do not justify his actions. However, the Minister’s response and the hooliganism of her supporters are completely unacceptable,” he said.
” There is a law under Dr. Ambedkar’s Constitution for every issue, and the Chairman of the House has already given a ruling on this matter. Yet, the events that followed, including the disrespect towards the Chairman and the disgraceful behavior, are shocking. It is also concerning that some individuals in the government are further escalating this incident into a wildfire for their own motives. When people from Panchamasali community protested in front of Suvarna Soudha for reservation, the @INCKarnataka government displayed its so-called courage by ordering a lathi charge. The brutality of the police on that day was indescribable,” Kumaraswamy added.
He also raised questions over the protesters entering Suvarna Soudha and the police actions on them.
The BJP leader also said that the videos aired on media show the personal assistant of the minister attempting to break the iron gates in the corridors, and engaging in acts of violence. These visuals are proof enough that the state is no longer in safe hands and they have a strong backing of ‘bande’.
” To the police: You are answerable for this entire incident. If you drove C.T. Ravi around in a police jeep all night, under whose orders was this done? Who is the gang leader of these hooligans? You know the truth, and you must reveal it,” Kumaraswamy said.
Conspiracy to kill me: CT Ravi
Ravi claimed there was a plot to kill him using a fraudulent complaint. He also criticised the police for their inaction, stating they had not filed either a standard complaint or a zero FIR.
“Police brought me to Khanapura police station around 8 pm. They didn’t tell me in which case they brought me. They’re not registering my complaint, they’re not even filing zero FIR,” CT Ravi stated in a video released by news agency ANI.
The BJP leader additionally asserted that a scheme had been devised to end his life and held the current Congress administration in Karnataka accountable. “If something happens to me, Congress government must take responsibility. By registering a false case, they’re conspiring to murder me,” he declared.
