AHMEDABAD: At 1.40 pm on June 12, Satinder Singh Sandhu, cluster fleet manager for EMRI 108 at Civil Hospital campus, was near the hospital when he heard a loud noise followed by a huge cloud of smoke. He set off in an ambulance and was among the first to reach the crash site. “The first person we spotted was the hostel guard who suffered primary burn injuries. Even as he was dispatched in an ambulance as the first patient from the site, we saw a man coming out near the building,” recounted Sandhu. The man turned out to be Ramesh Viswashkumar, the sole survivor. “We shouted to him as he appeared disoriented and tried to go back to the site, even as fire and smoke billowed. We later got to know his brother was on the flight, and he was trying to check on him. But the EMRI 108 team escorted him to Civil Hospital,” Sandhu added.
