Opposition parties on Monday (May 5, 2025) hit out at the plan to use cow dung-based natural paint on government buildings in Uttar Pradesh, calling it a stunt. “Gobarnama, it is a new stunt of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government,” Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav posted on social media platform X.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while chairing a meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department on Sunday, had called for the use of cow dung-based natural paint on government buildings.

“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that animal husbandry and dairy development form a vital pillar of Uttar Pradesh’s rural economy, offering not just milk production but also avenues for livelihood, nutrition security, and women empowerment. Chairing a review meeting of the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Department on Sunday, he called for greater use of technology, investment, and innovation to strengthen the sector. He also directed concrete steps to make cow protection centres self-reliant, and advocated the use of cow dung-based natural paint in government buildings, along with scaling up its production,” a statement by the U.P. government read.
SP leaders alleged that such actions were aimed at diverting attention and hiding failures. “Such action is aimed at diverting the attention of the masses, and hiding the failures of the State government. This government failed over the issue of employment opportunities, law and order, farmer issues, women’s issues, and other matters. People also used to run bullock carts in the past, so will government Ministers and officers use bullock carts? Times have changed. Such actions will take the State backwards,” Sunil Singh Yadav ‘Sajan’, SP spokesperson, said.
