Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for honoring Chettur Sankaran Nair and recognizing his role in India’s freedom movement. In an emotional social media post, Akshay, who will play the historical figure in his upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2, emphasized the need to remember and celebrate lesser-known heroes of the independence struggle.

Responding to the Prime Minister’s remarks, Akshay Kumar posted on X, “Thank you Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for remembering the great Chettur Sankaran Nair ji and his contribution to our freedom struggle. It is so important that we as a nation, especially the younger generation values the great women and men who fought valiantly to ensure that we breathe in a free country! Our Kesari Chapter 2, is a humble effort to remind everyone that we must never take our freedom for granted!”

On Sunday, April 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded civil rights advocate and freedom fighter Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair for his courageous stand against British rule following the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Although he didn’t mention the film explicitly, his comments came shortly before the release of Kesari Chapter 2.
While addressing a rally in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “There was Baisakhi in Punjab, but it was also the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. One aspect of this massacre has remained in the dark — it is a humanitarian issue. There was a man named Sankaran Nair, whose name many may not have heard. He was a prominent lawyer holding a high post in the British government. He could have enjoyed all the perks and luxuries, but he chose to give it all up.”
Kesari Chapter 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on April 18.
