The newly elected BJP government in Delhi will have to face an all round attack from the opposition Aam Aadmi Party starting from streets to the assembly as the party chalks out the strategy to ensure that the BJP fulfils all its promises.
While AAP MLAs will be taking up the issues of public interest in the assembly, various units of the AAP will be out in the streets ensuring that “public interest schemes reach every household”.
AAP’s Delhi Convener and former minister Gopal Rai will be holding various meetings throughout the week to strategise future course of action of the party. He said AAP MLAs will fight for the people’s interests in the Assembly, while the party’s organisation will do so on the streets.
Rai said that even though they did not get enough seats, the voters who supported the AAP had their full commitment.
“The entire machinery of AAP will stand with the people of Delhi with full strength and will support their struggles. We will raise our voice if BJP comes up with any anti-people policies… Our legislative party will strongly play its role in the Assembly as a responsible opposition to safeguard the interests of the people, while our organisational network will march forward on the streets with equal determination,” Rai said.
The party organisation, Rai added, will remain vigilant and continuously confront the BJP with tough questions regarding their promises from the state level down to the booth level.
“We will demand that the BJP government fulfil every commitment they made to the people during the elections… AAP will focus on defending public interest both in assembly as well as on streets,” Rai said.
The AAP got the responsibility of being the opposition from the people and they will fulfil the role of a constructive opposition not only inside the Assembly but also outside it, Rai added. “Our entire party organisation from the grassroot level will stand firm in its opposition role. The 43.6 per cent mandate given to us by the people of Delhi is a responsibility, and we are committed to safeguarding their trust and aspirations.”
Among the major promises made by the BJP include Rs 2,500 per month to women voters in Delhi, and AAP leaders have already started attacking the party setting a deadline of March 8 to initiate the scheme. The BJP also promised Rs 21,000 for every pregnant woman, LPG cylinders at Rs 500 and also Rs 2,500 pension for senior citizens. The party also promised free education from KG to PG for needy students.
The formation of the new government is not yet finalised by the BJP. The declaration of the chief minister’s face and oath taking ceremony are expected this week.
