Amitabh Bachchan, the iconic Bollywood actor, often shares intriguing anecdotes from his life and career on the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), now in its 16th season. In a recent episode, contestant Pranati Paidipati asked Bachchan if he ever checks price tags before buying items. Bachchan responded by recounting a story from his time in London, where a shopkeeper underestimated his financial means, leading to an unexpected situation.

Bachchan reflected on the question, noting that checking price tags is a normal practice for him. He shared, “We were just shopping around, and I happened to be looking at a tie, when the shopkeeper, with a dismissive tone, said it cost 120 pounds.”
Bachchan continued, “I looked right back at him and responded, ‘Pack ten of these for me.’” He emphasized the importance of maintaining dignity and confidence, saying, “It’s moments like these that remind me of the importance of showing our Indian spirit and confidence, even when faced with condescension. We sometimes need to make it clear that we are not to be underestimated.”
Bachchan also related a funny anecdote about his cockroach phobia on the same program. He told the story of how he once attempted to catch a cockroach in an insecticide-filled bottle, but it managed to get out a week later. He said, “Woh toh marte hin nanhi hai,” while laughing at the event.
Season 16 of Kaun Banega Crorepati premiered on August 12 and is broadcast every weekday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television. Amitabh Bachchan has hosted the show since its launch in 2000, with the exception of the third season, which was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan. The current season continues to air on Sony TV.
In addition to hosting the show, Amitabh Bachchan recently starred in the sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD and is set to appear alongside Rajinikanth in the upcoming film Vettaiyan.
